4 More Days

4 days before my trip and it has begun: Spritual Warfare.
The devil has started to get involved in my family's life - which means: Something GREAT is going to happen. I am excited to see what our GOD is going to do.

However, in the mean time, I have put on the Armor of God and I am ready:
  1. Belt of Truth
  2. Brestplate of Righteousness
  3. Shield of Faith
  4. Shoes of readiness from gospel of peace
  5. Helmet of Salvation
  6. Swort of Spirit

Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, (Eph:6-19)

My back is killing me

What’s Really Making Your Back Hurt

This morning, you probably didn’t think twice about slinging a work tote over your shoulder or picking your sneakers up off the floor. But there may come a time when one of those simple motions will trigger a backache bad enough to cause you to call in sick, see a doctor, or at the very least, take a few painkillers. According to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, four out of five women will develop a back injury at some point in their lives. But with a few simple changes, you can prevent yourself from becoming a statistic. The trick, says Douglas Chang, M.D., chief of physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of California, San Diego Medical Center, is separating the misconceptions from the facts. “A lot of the advice that’s floating round out there is unhelpful, or in some cases even harmful,” he says. We asked Chang and other experts to set the record straight on how to best prevent and heal aches and pains.

MYTH #1 Lifting heavy objects will strain your back
Most injuries are caused not by what you pick up, but how you do it. The proper form: Squat, keeping your back straight. Grab the object, bring it close to your body, then stand; your thigh and butt muscles should do the lifting.
Just grabbing a pen off the floor? It’s still important to be careful, because simply twisting the wrong way can harm your back. “One of the worst moves is bending over to the side while staying seated with your feet planted on the floor,” says Rahul Shah, M.D., an orthopedic spine surgeon in Winter Park, Florida. “Twisting your back in two directions at once may strain the disks that cushion your spinal vertebrae.” This repetitive trauma builds up over the years and can weaken your spine. “If your back is already vulnerable,” says Shah, “the wrong movement could easily trigger an injury.”
MYTH #2 Sitting up straight keeps your spine in line
While your mom was right to stop you from hunching, holding yourself too erectly isn’t as good for your back as you think. “It puts a lot of stress on your disks, especially when you do it for long periods of time,” says Santhosh Thomas, a doctor of osteopathic medicine and medical director of the Cleveland Clinic’s Center for Spine Health in Westlake, Ohio. In fact, researchers at Woodend Hospital in Scotland found that people who sat at a 90-degree angle strained their spines more than those who reclined at 135 degrees.
“A few times a day, adjust your posture,” recommends Shah. “Lean back in your chair with your feet on the ground and make sure there’s a slight curve in your lower back.” That way, he explains, you’ll distribute your body weight more evenly, as your shoulders and upper back muscles will take some of the pressure off your spine. If you often find yourself slouching at your desk at the end of the workday, consider using a cushion to support your lower back and keep your spine in alignment.
What may be even more important than sitting correctly is taking frequent breaks from your desk throughout the day, says Chang. To boost circulation in your back muscles and lessen fatigue, stand up every half hour and take a five-minute stroll or stretch every hour. He advises doing some of your work while standing up to give your spine a little reprieve. “Take a phone call on your feet,” says Chang, “or place a report on top of a waist-high filing cabinet so you can stand and read it.”

It has begun...

For a week now I have been seeing this....
Fuzzyness creeping thru the short shiny coat:

WINTER COAT!!

It can easily be detectected by the long hairs:

And it's still hot outside...meaning, every ride will turn into even faster sweat, which will attact even more bugs!

But it's so cuddly and soft...King's fur feels like a cat's.

Now, who can guess what body part this photo was taken from:

That's more like it

Sunday evening at the barn...the day after "Ike". We had a 21 hour power outage and our frozen foods needed to be consumed...Not a problem! We now feature a salvaged grill at the barn (thanks to Papa Joe). Notice in the picture below how the pavilion post is now acting as a cutlery rack:
There you have it: We are finally using the "mens' room" in it's proper purpose:
  • Food is being prepared for us girls, becaus we are hungry after our horse work outs
  • Only the best: Turkey burgers, Bratwurst, potato salad, cole slaw, hot dog, baked beans...
  • Organic products are even prepaired right in front of you at the table for our viewing pleasure - see below:

Kelly says: "Shoot Paul - hurry up - I'm ready for my apple now or you'll get to know my fist!"

Trixie is always amongst us:

Pavillion?

Here's what these men are doing while us girls go riding: They call it "building a mens' room". Now what is a mens' room doing at the barn? We can only speculate at this time: observe riding activities? Security of stables? Play cards? Talk silly or simply kick back and be lazy?
I would much prefer: Cook hamburgers, steaks, ribs & set out condiments & refreshments for us girls. Provide personal compliments & be available to take instructions for completion of chores: fix stuff, carry horse feed, help get ticks out of horses ears...etc.

All materials have been scrounged up & "recycled" from local construction sites. The construction experience sure provides adequate bonding time. As one can see below: the proper attitude is displayed: The spirit of Freedom.

Here's who made this project possible:

  1. Specifications: Papa Joe (middle)
  2. Engineering: Papa Joe
  3. Procurement: Paul (left)
  4. Project Scheduling: (position is available)
  5. Project superintendant: Carl (right)
  6. Tool operators/fabricators/general low labor: See dubious figures above
  7. Supervision & Security: Trixie (not shown here for safety reasons)

And yes, you have been guessing correctly: they are covered in sweat - it's only been 2 hours of work...but we ARE in Louisiana, it's September and only about 500% humidity at 90 degrees in the shade.

1 Month

Today is September 3rd. In exactly one month, October 3rd that is, I will be landing in Germany. That is in 30 days. I cannot hide it: I am looking forward to it. Today is my brothers' birthday: Marco and Eric are twins. It's their 28th birthday. I saw them last on their 24th birthday: It was a nice trip: I went with my in-laws who had never been to Germany before. Of course Charlie stuck out particularly: There are no cowboys in Germany. He was a real attraction.
I am going to visit my family for my Grand-parents' 60th wedding anniversary. I cannot imagine being married for 60 years. They got married in 1948. Who can remember this year? That's just after the war, no cars, horsebuggies, no TV, no computer, not everyone had a telephone, no running water, no electricity, no washing machine, no drug store, no coffee machine with automatic starter, walking uphill both ways to school in the winter barefoot..those were the days and they stayed husband and wife this long! Admirable.
The actual reason I am going is a mission trip: My family is not saved. They are those people that say they are good enough to make it to heaven, after all they have not killed anyone, stolen anything and they try to be ethically correct. But on the same token Oma (grandma in German) thinks that heaven cannot possibly big enough for all the people that have died since beginning of time. Yep, trying to rationalize Gods Kingdom...it's not gonna work.
They actually have a Baptist Church there. In fact, they are building a huge Baptist Chruch in Leipzig and it's all over the news. Praise God! Open the eyes of Your poeple!
I will take my brothers to the service on Sunday, Oct. 5th. It's a little church by where they live. I am looking forward to it. Wonder what kind of songs they sing, how their worship is, looking forward to meeting the people there.
30 more days...Prepare their hearts, Lord. Let their soil be ready to receive the seed.
